July 3 Summer Intensive “Informance” – The Kids are Alright!

Laughter and applause, energy and good will were in great abundance among the audience of over 200 community arts leaders, including LexArts Jim Clark, members of SummerFest Board and their president Joe Cannon Artz,  SummerFest 2009 directors Margo Buchanan and Joe Ferrell, UK Opera Theatre’s Angelique Clay, parents, and KCTC and SummerFest alums, who came out to support and enjoy the “Informance” by the talented young artists of the 2009 class of KCTC’s Summer Intensive yesterday at 4 p.m. in UK’s Guignol Theatre.

A wonderful emphasis on how the creative process is approached, nurtured, taught, refined and finally presented was on vibrant display throughout yesterday’s KCTC Informance.  Beginning with Trish and Ellie Clark, each segment, from song and dance with Tracey and Donna Bonner, commedia dell arte and mask work with Brian Foley, and stage combat techniques and film stunts with Henry Layton and Chris “Lito” Tamez, was introduced and followed up  with thoughtful, fun and organic stage creations from the minds and imaginations of  the many young Conservatory artists.  The talent that each teen brought to the stage was obvious and furthered enhanced by the group’s palpable cohesiveness  and support of one another.

KCTC’s founder and director Trish Clark said “investing in the care and training of our kids, to  provide them with these opportunities to learn, grow and mature is the best way to ensure Lexington will have its next generation of young artists. The camaraderie, confidence and talent of this year’s class was awesome!”

Trish, we couldn’t agree more. These talented young artists of Central Kentucky are proof positive,  the kids are alright.  And the once and future LEX arts scene is all the better because of them!

A huge round of applause goes out to everyone who helped made the KCTC 2009 Summer Intensive a rousing success!
